Not too long ago, a friend of mine was presented with an email from some_random_name@outlook.com stating that they have a video of my friend on adult sites. They even claimed to have my friend’s password which turned out to be true. How the scammers got the password is beyond me and an entirely different story I’m sure. The rest of the email pretty much threatens to expose such video unless money is paid.
The good news is, it’s a scam: Beware of Extortion Scams Stating They Have Video of You on Adult Sites. And no, they don’t have a video of you watching porn.
The important thing to do if scammer really did get your password, then you need to change any accounts that carry that password mentioned in the email.
And if the email address of the scammer happens to come from an outlook.com domain, you can forward the email to abuse@outlook.com, and they might turn off the account.
