The Hunter is a great movie to watch if you love adventure, mystery, and thrillers, and love outdoor survival movies. Being that the story revolves around capturing the last Tasmanian Tiger, that aspect alone made it feel fairytale-like or magical, if that makes any sense. Even though these tigers once existed, the fact that we’ve not seen one alive since the last known black and white footage is like going on the hunt for dinosaurs, and I love that feeling. Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man), Frances O’Conner (Mansfield Park, A.I. Artificial Intelligence), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Merlin) all give great performances. The Hunter is beautifully shot and takes full advantage of the raw, natural surroundings, whether it was an outdoor shot when Dafoe’s character was in the wild or when we were at the home where Dafoe takes lodge. I also love that the movie was entirely filmed in Tasmania. The trailer honestly doesn’t do this movie justice – a common problem with the various genres the film touches.
